Graffiti, cultural heritage of the urban surroundings. The exposition 'Graffiti, cultural heritage of the urban surroundings' is an overview of expressions that derive from the graffiti subculture. A culture with an urban environment as a foundation, where talents blossom and creative development is happening. Extra attention will be given to 80's and 90's graffiti in Haarlem. Everything that's on display originates from the Haarlem based Dutch Graffiti Library. Background: The Dutch Graffiti Library has set itself the goal to conserve the graffiti subculture, by collecting documentation, archiving, publishing and keeping it as a collection together. Besides the documentation in the form of photos, books, magazines, posters, flyers, scrappings and catalogs are original designs, paintings, screen-prints and post-graffiti expressions an important part of the collection. In 2018 are the activities formalized in the Dutch Graffiti Library Foundation. This foundation takes care of making the DGL-collection accessible and comprehensible. The foundation is convinced this collection could be of great added value to spreading knowledge, insights and experiences surrounding the graffiti subcultre for our present and future generations.
